The Story so Far...

I guess I should open with what exactly this will be about, who it is for and why it is even worth reading. This will mostly be about traveling, both work and personal, since that is pretty much all you can do when you have no place you call home. It is for anyone who finds such things interesting and anyone who is wondering where I am today or perhaps was yesterday. Now, as to why, well despite having lots of things going on when you travel a lot you spend an inordinate amount of time waiting around. Waiting in airports, waiting for meetings, waiting on trains and buses, just waiting. And while I can fill almost all of that time with books and internet and music at a certain point writing about what I do and where I am became a good idea. Which leads me to exactly what it is I am doing and why I am traveling so much.

This recent travel schedule started like many of my previous ones, because of work. Ask me what I do for work and no matter what I try to tell people they don't really grasp it so I will just say I consult. And I happen to consult in the public sector which means we are not going to be talking about glamorous locations in most cases. But, that is half the fun. My current client requires me to travel up to 100% but it should be more like 50% for the rest of the year. When you throw in my own personal travel, both planned and spontaneous, you could see why I felt the need for housing of my own to be irrelevant. And thanks to a gracious and understanding project manager I was able to give up my apartment in Northern Virginia, pack my things into storage and move whatever I could in my car to Florida.

And that is where I am now, Florida gets to play home base for those precious short days or weeks between one trip and the next. It is where I can relax and see some family, try not to get a sun burn and feel a slight sense of routine that does not involve needing a male assist at security.

Now I do have some catching up to do as I have been traveling since February and I am just sitting down to start this. Already I have to write about Louisville, Manhattan (KS), Kansas City, Davenport, Moline, Chicago, Lexington, Richmond and one long terrible road trip when the entire state of South Carolina had no vacancy on 95.

Hope these write ups end up being as enjoyable as the trips that spawn them.
